Today I wanted to share my new favourite nail polishes with you all! I’ve followed So Sue Me (aka Suzanne Jackson) for a while now and I love the fashion and makeup advice she shares on her blog so when she announced she was releasing her own range of polishes I was super excited.
The news that they would be stocked in Penneys and selected pharmacies such as Hickeys was amazing, there’s practically nowhere in Dublin that has neither one. I found that Hickeys definitely have the better selection, I got my first few colours in Penneys but had to try two different locations to get the colours I wanted and finally I went to Hickeys where they seemed to have every colour in the range!
I went a little OTT, as I tend to, but each and every colour is so rich and vibrant it was impossible not to want them all! They promise a gel-look finish and they 100% deliver, along with true to pot pigment and incredible coverage. Usually with polishes you have to assume the pigment will be slightly different (although Barry M, my other favourite, are very true to pigment as well) and I would nearly always apply two coats as the coverage can be streaky but not with these.
The above polishes are Cast a Spell (purple) and Rock Candy (light pink) these were the first I tried from the range and they didn’t disappoint. The darker shade only needed one super-smooth coat and the coverage was flawless, with lighter shades I think you’ll always have to apply two coats to build intensity (maybe that’s just me) but the coverage was flawless nonetheless. I didn’t use a top coat simply because I didn’t need to! They were super shiny and the pictures barely do justice to how perfectly gel-like they appeared.
Above is one of my ultimate favourites from the collection, Bare my Soul. I love unusual colours and this greeny glittery shade is a perfect addition to my collection. Again, coverage was impeccable and the pigment was unbelievably rich. Definitely looks like it does in the bottle. Must-have.
Another of my favourites, Boss Bitch, how awesome are those names by the way? Love it! I’m a proper girly girl when it comes to pink, it’s my favourite colour – you might have noticed my bedroom in the background of pictures…. It’s this kind of pink! But this polish only needs one coat and look how super shiny it looks in the above picture, such a perfect shade!
The above shade This is Paradise, was the only difficult colour to apply, due to it’s very pale pigment it needed two good coats before the nail was covered completely but this is the norm with most polishes so not an issue for me. Once on the colour was beautiful, a really fresh pastel shade of blue/turquoise. I wouldn’t let the fact this shade needs two coats put you off just because the others don’t, the colour is still beautiful and shiny.
Blue My Mind is a gorgeous dark blue with a slightly glittery pigment. The shade is unbelievable and definitely unique, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a blue polish this shade (I’ll share a picture of my nail racks later – only featuring my favourites, the rest are stored in a drawer). The glittery pigment doesn’t show through as clearly on the nail as in the bottle but glimmers when the nail moves and looks stunning. This is also one of the shiniest colours in the collection as you can see above.
First Date is a gorgeous red colour, not too dark but not pale enough to touch on Orange. Only one coat needed for great coverage and shine. I love a good red nail, so classy and goes with absolutely any outfit! Every polish collection needs a couple of reds.
Love, love, love the two polishes above, Private Jet (black) and Unicorn Dust (glitter) and they look amazing together! Although it can look very gothic I love a sleek black polish and this is the perfect one – the shine creates a classic, elegant finish. I love glitter polishes, I have a number in my collection but they can be difficult to apply in terms of coverage and even harder to remove. This has great coverage for a glitter polish, if you’ve ever used glitter before you’ll know it often takes multiple coats before the nail is covered evenly and can often end up lumpy, this polish has good coverage, no areas left uncovered while others are double coated creating that lumpy effect. Super easy to apply and a smooth finish. This stops it being hard to remove too, no endless scrubbing to get the glitter particles off.
The only polish I bought in the collection and haven’t yet tried is the white, Fluffy Clouds. I’ll be testing it soon but I imagine it will be a success as all the others are. I’ll probably wear it on holiday in July, nothing like a clean white manicure in the sun with a tan! Needless to say, I love this collection, there are a few other colours I didn’t buy but I might in the future. At roughly €7.99 a pop they are average priced but buying in bulk as I did can really hurt – nearly €80! They are without a doubt worth it though and I would recommend this polish to everyone. They have pride of place on my nail racks, which by the way I bought in Ikea for €3 each (spice racks believe it or not) and they fit about three rows of polish!
