I’m sorry I’ve been M.I.A the last while but I’ve just returned from 10 amazing days in sunny Lanzarote! I thought I’d share my experience with you all and maybe give you some ideas if you’re heading there yourself!
So, I booked this holiday back in February as a birthday present for my amazing boyfriend and since I’ve never been to Lanzarote I was going purely on reviews from Trip Advisor and the likes, who I always tend to trust. I booked through Budget Travel and settled on the Costa Volcan Apartments, the reviews suggested it was a good location, close to everything and it really was perfect. It’s located at the bottom of a hill, we were dropped at the top by our coach but on the first evening we chanced walking to the right instead of straight up the hill and there’s a lovely flat path around the other side! No steep hills for us 👍
So the ‘new town’ (the strip) is only a 5 minute walk away, and when you walk around the flat path which is actually quicker than trekking up a hill, it’s a really pleasant walk. The first pub you come across, Slattery’s was one of our favourites and if you didn’t already guess, Irish! The staff were amazing, all so lovely and friendly and they did the best fry on the strip, Ger was the best craic, a Limerick man who never stopped making us all laugh. If you’re in Puerto del Carmen don’t pass by this place without stopping in! They do great €5 cocktails too!
We ate at so many different restaurants, we tried somewhere new every night but there was one place we ate dinner in twice, La Casa Del Parmigiano, a gorgeous Italian just at the start of the strip (near Slattery’s and Burger King if that helps!) It’s only around the corner from the apartments but if you’re staying further down the strip it’s well worth the walk up! The food is excellent, I’d recommend the lasagne, and the atmosphere is lovely. We sat both outside and inside and both were lovely, very romantic. There is a stray cat that seems to live around the grounds and he wanders in and out of the courtyard (never inside so sit indoors if you don’t like cats). He was beautiful, very accepting of human attention and would even come when beckoned for a little scratch and scrap of food! I loved it, being such a huge animal lover but he does keep his distance unless called.
There are so many amazing restaurants all along the strip and we didn’t have a single bad meal. The thing I loved most was how the strip ran along one side of the street and opposite was the promenade and the sea, it was so beautiful to sit and eat while watching the sun set over the sea. I’d also recommend Oriental World and La Terrazza (you have to try their brownie!), both big restaurants along the strip. You won’t be disappointed anywhere you go, all the menus are long and varied and the food just seems to be amazing.
So now, on to the fashion. I love holidays because I get to wear things I never would at home! Lots of florals, cut-outs and flowing fabrics. Not to mention feathered earrings in any colours you can find and stacks of bangles. It’s just a chance to wear anything that takes your fancy, especially when the Irish weather doesn’t permit them!
I wore this floral two-piece from Boohoo.com on one of the first nights. I loved it because it was loose fitting with a slit up the front and a kind of fold which meant it sat beautifully, you didn’t risk flashing anything in other words! I paired it with diamante sandals from New Look that I picked up for only €18. They are the most comfortable sandals with a toe divide I have ever worn! No blisters in sight!
I got this gorgeous floral mullet dress in Quiz and I knew it would be perfect for holidays. I think it was probably my favourite outfit of the whole 10 days. I don’t know about you but when I look at it I instantly think, “holidays, Sun, warm nights.” I picked up the lilac clutch in Penneys a year ago and it went with so many outfits I had chosen I just had to bring it with me.
I also brought one of my trusty holiday favourites, this blue Nicole x Missguided dress. I love the electric colour and the cut-out details. Very comfortable despite how snug it sits too. Paired with simple flip-flops from Penneys that only cost about €1.50 and one of my favourite body-chains.
Another staple, I brought this white lace bralet, from a small boutique I can’t remember the name of, and this mint green skirt from H&M. Simple and comfortable, I like looks that are quick and easy to put together to head straight back out.
The above lace dress from Boohoo.com was one of my favourites from Vegas last year so I had to bring it again this year, and I also bought it in pink! At €20 it was hard to resist.
So if you have any questions or tips of your own please leave a comment! I’m already thinking about when I can go back!
