I know so many people find Valentine’s Day to be an irrelevant day invented by card companies to make money but I love it. There’s nothing wrong with celebrating the day with someone you love, having a nice meal or a few drinks. You don’t need to buy into the extravagance and splash out on presents, if that’s not your thing, just spending time with that special someone is enough!
So, with all that being said I thought I’d share some Valentine’s inspiration if you’re getting in the spirit. Personally, although it’s cliché I love red. It’s such a romantic and vibrant colour, it was also revealed as the colour men most like on women so there’s also that!
I always think the first place to start is a rich red lip. If you don’t want to wear a red dress then this is a perfectly subtle way to give a nod to romance. Or you can do both! I certainly have in the past. So there’s a lot of swatches in the above picture, all colours I think are perfect for Valentine’s. Starting from the top: Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo, Loréal the Red Collection Blake Lively’s red, Rimmel London Lasting Finish Kate Moss in shade 22, Revlon Super Lustrous in 720 Fire and Ice, MaxFactor In 715 Ruby Tuesday, Rimmel Moisture Renew in 360 As You Want Victoria, Ted Baker, Maybelline Super Stay 24 Color in 510 Red Passion and 175 Extreme Fuchsia, Nyx high voltage HVLS 02.
If red lips aren’t your thing you can always add a pop of colour to your nails! The above 7 polishes are some of my favourite reds; No7 Gel Finish in Deep Wine, Barry M Red Glitter, Barry M Gelly in Blood Orange, Christian Louboutin Beaute Rouge (a luxury item most definitely, but also the perfect match for those red soles!), SoSu by Suzanne Jackson in Ladies Night, Rudolf’s Mistress and First Date.
Next up is perfume, you’ve got to be smelling seductively sweet! My go-to perfumes are usually fruity with a little musk. The below are my top picks for smelling great on a date: Cheryl Stormflower, if you want something a little fruitier try the Limited edition release [pink bottle] or for something slightly muskier try the Noir version [black bottle]. Christina Aguilera (the first release) is a gorgeously musky scent and one of my long-time favourites, it’s also super affordable at only €30 a bottle. My final pick is Vera Wang, a bit of a splurge but if you like a stronger smell you won’t regret it.
