Hello Readers,
I actually got this Nyx Set as a present the Christmas before last and I’ve been using the products constantly but during my hiatus I just didn’t get a chance to review it!
This set contains 7 miniatures of some of Nyx Cosmetics best prep and set products, that I am now fully obsessed with thanks to this set! I’ve repurchased full-sized versions of some of these already and I’ll soon need to purchase a few of the others that are running on empty! I’ll start with my favourites 😉
The HD Studio Photogenic Eyeshadow Base (€8) is one of my holy grail products, I literally can’t live without it now! I always use it for weekend/night out smokey eyes and having hooded eyes I tend to suffer from the dreaded crease 🙈 This little miracle holds the shadow in place and smooths out the crease so the shadow doesn’t transfer, smudge or blur into a horrible line of colour right on the crease!
Don’t get me wrong it’s not flawless, there will be some creasing at the end of a long night but it’s nothing at all to what I’m used to and I think we all expect there to be some smudging by the end of the night, right? I swear by this though and never do a smokey eye without it, I never use concealer to carve out my eyes either, this does the job just as well and gives a great sturdy base! I’ve been using this every weekend for the last year and I think I still have a good amount of product left, a little goes a very long way with this and for less than a tenner I’ll 100% be snapping up a new bottle!
The HD Finishing Powder (€12) is my next absolute must-have. I use this all the time to set my ‘fancy’ makeup, aka weekends and nights out when I make an effort 🙈
Again, I’m using the same miniature that comes in the set a full year later and I’ve barely made a dent in it, the smallest dab of your brush picks up enough powder so you use very little to cover the full face and it’s such a natural, translucent finish that you’d never know you had powder on, there is no residue or flashback whatsoever.
I particularly love how small this compact is, perfect for travelling and throwing in the handbag for a night out, not that you’ll need any touch-ups because this really works, even though I have dry skin I suffer with oily patches on my forehead and cheeks and I swear by powder to keep my foundation sliding off these parts of my face as well as setting it before adding any contour or blush!
The First Base Primer Spray (RRP €10) is one of the products I need to repurchase asap, I have a good few primer sprays, one of my favourites is the Makeup Revolution Aqua Priming Spray, but I alternate between that and this Nyx one regularly because they’re both fab and roughly the same price. This is well worth the money and gives a lovely dewy base for foundation, even without moisturiser this will give you flawless foundation.
The Matte Finish Setting Spray (€10) is another must if you use setting sprays, I actually sometimes spritz a little bit of this over my entire face after powdering and applying eyeshadow because it gives a lovely oil-free extra layer of setting. It’s also perfectly good to use on its own, especially day-to-day when you might not have time to set with powder, I’ve found that it definitely does its job, my foundation always lasts longer when I use a setting spray, which I usually do for work (9-5 ain’t easy on the foundation)
The Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator (€10.50) is another that I’ve gone out and repurchased, it’s such a stunning illuminator that I’ve used over and under foundation. It can be used after priming to give a lovely glowy base for the foundation, like a strobe cream, around the cheekbones, down the centre of the nose and on the forehead – anywhere the light hits and also anywhere you could be prone to dryness because this is lusciously creamy. I just love how dewy and bright it is! Definitely worth the money 👌
The Pore Filler Primer/Base (€15.50) hasn’t been one of my favourite primers, always find myself reaching for other primers in my collection but I think it’s just because I don’t have obvious/large pores. The only couple of times I tried it I found it quite drying, particularly around my nose which is why I need to use hyrdating primers to give moisture rather than take any away, I will try it again though and see how I get on but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this one when my absolute favourite from E.L.F Cosmetics is only €10.50 and works so well!
The Control Freak Eyebrow Gel (€8) is the only product I don’t really use from this set, it is very hydrating and nourishing on the brows so I’ve used it a couple of times overnight just to give my brows some hydration but I rarely set my brows, I don’t actually use much brow products, I’m lucky to have very thick natural brows so I usually only fill them in with the Benefit Goof-Proof Brow Pencil or sometimes the Nyx Tame and Frame Brow Pomade. I might do a run through of all my fave subtle brow products soon! This is great for shaping and taming unruly hairs so if you put in some work shaping your brows, this is for you!
Have you tried any of these products? What are your go-to prep and set products?
Lauren,
